UVA History Teacher Simon Bowers is Louisiana’s prestigious James Madison Memorial Fellowship recipient for 2022. Just one educator from each of the 50 states is selected each year. “I was the first in my family to have a Bachelor’s degree, and now I’m going to be working on my Master’s alongside so many other incredibly talented and dedicated U.S. History teachers,” Bowers said excitedly.
The award carries a $25,000 prize and the chance to study in Washington, D.C. “The Fellowship really is just such an incredible opportunity to make me an even better U.S. History educator for my students. At the end of the day, that’s who I’m ultimately doing this for,” he gushed.
Mr. Bowers also thanked his co-teacher, Alicia McKeough, who was a Madison Fellow in 2012. He said it was through her that he found out about the Fellowship and got encouragement from her to apply.
