University View Academy senior Brooklyn Mire of New Iberia was named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. She is one of 21,000 students designated nationwide. She will find out in the spring if she is named a Finalist and awarded a scholarship.
The 17-year-old plans to attend UL Lafayette for college in accounting and based on her grades and ACT score, she may qualify for other scholarships to cover her tuition and fees.
She transferred to University View Academy this year to take advantage of more college-level courses than her former brick and mortar school offered. Brooklyn also works two jobs, waitressing and at a daycare center and plays softball on a travel team.
