UVA instructional coach Kaleisha London leads the Academics Department in a competitive roll call

It’s game on for the University View Academy (UVA) community. UVA staff and educators recently joined together at the Crowne Plaza Executive Center in Baton Rouge to kick off the 2024-25 school year at the annual staff convocation. The theme for the school year is “Changing the Game: Imagine. Innovate. Inspire.”

In keeping with the school year’s theme, UVA staff arrived bursting with energy and enthusiasm. Dressed in school colors of green, blue, white, or gray, each school level and department began the day with a roll call competition, filling the morning with laughter and team spirit. Elementary School won the coveted spirit stick.

The keynote speaker for the event was Rayne Martin, CEO of executive coaching firm It’s the Impact. Martin guided guests into finding their “zone of brilliance,” a combination of their unique talents, skills, and knowledge that can be used to serve the others around them. Teachers then spent the afternoon in educational breakout sessions that included edtech platform demonstrations and overviews of each school level’s game plan.

UVA strives to keep students at the heart of every decision made. Superintendent Dr. Quentina Timoll and the UVA leadership team compiled instructional data and feedback from students, families, and staff throughout the previous school year. The 2024-25 school year will see the introduction of new departments, new curriculum elements, new team members, and a new structure for UVA’s virtual learning environment, all with the aim to keep improving the educational experience for students.

“Challenge the status quo and embrace change,” Timoll encouraged staff during her address. “How are your actions empowering our students?”

UVA welcomed back both new and returning students on Thursday, August 8. “Changing the Game” promises to be full of opportunities for imagining new possibilities, innovating education, and inspiring students to succeed.
