University View Academy (UVA) began the 2024-25 school year with the theme “Changing the Game: Imagine. Innovate. Inspire.” Since August, UVA has launched several innovative initiatives designed to better serve families, such as a new student orientation and a micro academy pilot program. Continuing the trend, UVA held its largest ever on-campus college and career fair for high schoolers on Friday, February 7.
“There’s something for all of our students, whether they’re interested in a four-year or a two-year college, if they’re interested in a trade school, or if they’re interested in just entering the workforce,” said Toni Brumley, UVA’s Director of Counseling. “It’s something important that you can do for students and families to let them see what’s available.”
Excited conversation filled UVA’s conference center as 128 students, accompanied by their families, explored the 29 vendors set up throughout the day. The recruiting representatives included career options such as the Aviation Academy of Louisiana, the Baton Rouge Police Department, and branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Several regional colleges and universities such as Louisiana State University, Northshore Technical Community College, and the University of New Orleans were also on site. Attendees could also meet with representatives from the Louisiana Workforce Commission and the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance to ask questions.
As graduation season draws closer, UVA is pleased to continue offering opportunities to prepare our high schoolers for their futures. Be sure to bookmark our student calendar here so you don’t miss out on what’s happening soon near you.
