UVA Superintendent Dr. Quentina Timoll addresses district educators and staff at this year’s back-to-school convocation.

Teachers and staff from University View Academy (UVA) joined together at the Baton Rouge Marriott on Friday, August 4, 2023, to officially kick off the new school year. Guests were challenged by UVA Superintendent Dr. Quentina Timoll as she unveiled the theme of “Mission Possible” for the 2023-24 school year.

The keynote speaker for the event was Ms. Merlyna Valentine who motivated the audience with her inspirational and powerful message of resilience and determination. As the survivor of many storms of change in her life, her reminder that “it always seems impossible until it is done” echoed the sentiments shared earlier by Dr. Timoll.

UVA welcomed back both new and returning students on Monday, August 7, 2023. UVA currently serves over 3,600 students across Louisiana – making UVA’s first week of school possible required the hard work of the whole team.

“We serve the entire state,” said Debra Haynes, a school engagement counselor. “It can be hard to service our families without someone there personally. We want to be not just a phone call, but a face.”

The excitement of a new year extended to the other members of the engagement department as well. “Our vision this year is to be restorative,” said Beth Williams, a school engagement specialist. “No one gets left behind. We want to help every family sparkle.”

UVA’s talented team of staff and educators is looking forward to helping students achieve great things this year on our way to “Mission Possible!”
