University View AcademyJunior Victoria Brueck said she was surprised to learn she won the Finance competition at the recent state DECA Conference because she had no idea it was a contest. After registering for the conference, organizers sent her a set of multiple-choice questions she thought was part of the process.  She said she answered the questions with no second thought and didn’t get a score.  Instead, DECA recognized Victoria as the finance category winner during the conference, which was virtual, due to Covid-19 restrictions.  DECA selected other winners in the fields of business, marketing, and hospitality.

DECA is formerly known as the Distributive Education Clubs of America.  It is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping young adults become career and college ready. The club prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, hospitality, financing, and management.

Victoria’s goal is to become an aerospace engineer and work for NASA after college.  She is the UVA DECA Club President and is in Early College High School working toward an Associate’s Degree.  She’s in her fifth year attending UVA.
