Elementary school recently hosted a STEM Day and Science Fair Kick-Off. Students and families joined with their teachers both virtually and in-person to celebrate science, technology, engineering, and math with hands-on fun. Each team of grade-level teachers set up a table with experiments. They dug for fossils, built catapults, created sugar and salt snowflakes, and more. Fourth and fifth graders also learned about UVA’s upcoming science fair from last year’s elementary school science fair winner.
STEM Day is part of UVA’s ongoing efforts to reinforce strong science instruction in the earliest grades. Be on the lookout for the incredible science fair projects coming soon.
