Balancing Academic Rigor and Artistic Expression at UVA

University View Academy (UVA) sophomore Evie Parks had her artwork “The Cajun Way” accepted into the prestigious LSU Statewide Juried High School Art Exhibition.

“Last year, I submitted another piece, but it wasn’t accepted,” Parks said. “So I was thrilled to find out that this piece was accepted!”

Parks is a gifted and versatile student who has attended UVA since second grade, seeking a challenge and enjoying the flexibility to work ahead and manage her assignments without a fixed schedule. She is actively involved in a number of clubs and student organizations such as Beta Club, DECA, National Honor Society, and the UVA Talented Art and Talented Music programs. She is also enrolled in the Early College Academy and taking dual enrollment courses, pursuing an associate degree in science with plans to become a certified clinical dietitian and personal trainer. Despite her busy schedule, Parks still makes time for art.

“I enjoy the serenity it brings,” Parks said. “Art is a safe haven and a fulfilling hobby, much like my music. It’s a passion I’ve nurtured throughout my life, and it has become a discipline that I continue to grow and utilize over the years. Art is one of the main ways I express myself.”

Parks’ art will be on display in the LSU Barnes Ogden Gallery through Saturday, March 21. Catch more student accomplishments by following University View Academy on FacebookInstagramYouTube and LinkedIn.
