UVA staff members Nita Martin and Amanda Cross pose with some of the books that were available for purchase at the Scholastic Book Fair.

The faculty and staff of University View Academy (UVA) traveled to the Alexandria Convention Center on Friday, August 25, 2023, for the school’s annual open house option geared to reach families in the northern half of Louisiana. The annual event provides UVA families a chance to meet their instructors and other UVA staff in person while engaging with other students.

Many grades dressed in themes or had fun activities set up at their tables for students. Students and families used the opportunity to get to know their teachers better, play games, conduct experiments, and complete fun activities at each station. The event would not be complete without snowballs which were a perfect treat to cool down from the steamy August afternoon or a stroll through the Scholastic Book Fair.

The open house also provided families a chance to collect student IDs, pick up their UVA merchandise, and explore all the various classes and subjects UVA offers in grades K-12. UVA Lynx Den staff were on site with a preview of activities coming soon to our STEAM activities center. Many students realized it’s never too early to think about their future educational game plans at UVA!

“Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care,” said Amber Borne, a high school dual enrollment English teacher. “Open house is one of the ways that UVA teachers let students know how important they are. It’s a bit magical.”

UVA hosts two open house events each fall. Don’t miss your opportunity to catch the final 2023 open house in Gonzales! Who knows what surprises are in store?
