The hardworking quiz bowl team at University View Academy (UVA) recently placed second overall against 13 other schools at the Leesville Invitational Competition. Team members Cody Lemoine (12th grade) and Anyalina Vertigan (11th grade) also earned individual top scorer awards.

“It’s been such a hard fight to get here,” shared UVA teacher and team sponsor Kayla Bourg. “I could not be more excited and proud of all their hard work.”

UVA Quiz Bowl formed three years ago and has been practicing rigorously to compete against more established teams. The individual victory is especially poignant for Lemoine, who is a founding member and also a senior set to graduate in May 2026.

“Cody has been working for a win for three years,” Bourg said. “I was praying so hard he would get one before he graduated, and a confluence of events made his dream a reality.”

Quiz bowl is a team academic sport where students compete against other schools in a fast-paced trivia arena. UVA Quiz Bowl will head to the state competition in Lafayette, LA, in March followed by nationals held in Chicago in April. We are proud of their determination and vigor.
