University View Academy (UVA) began the spring semester with a reinvigorated commitment to serving families. Inspired by the unique needs of mid-year enrollees, UVA staff members recently joined together with families for UVA’s second annual new student orientation.
The orientation was designed to provide new families a smooth transition to the virtual learning environment at UVA. Families who enrolled after open houses were offered in the fall were also encouraged to attend to help address any remaining questions or concerns.
UVA’s family liaison team, diverse learners team, academic leadership, and more were on hand to interact with families, answer questions, and share with them UVA’s various opportunities for engagement and academic enrichment. Attendees could pick up UVA t-shirts and yard signs, as well as free learning resources provided by the instructional materials team. The orientation provided new families the chance to meet peers in the same grade level or from the same region. Families who could not attend in person could stream the session virtually. A Q&A session followed the presentations.
UVA strives to place families first in every decision made. All new enrollees complete an onboarding course and receive assistance from advisory teachers and the family liaison team as needed. These supports are available throughout the school year, but the orientation was planned to answer more commonly asked questions early to ease the transition for all students and learning coaches.
After the orientation, one learning coach was confident enough that she canceled a follow-up session with her family liaison. “I was very impressed with the information included in orientation,” she said. “I was in a panic before, but after that I feel confident that I have it under control and we can get through.”
UVA welcomed both new and returning students back to school on Thursday, January 8. The application window for the 2026-27 school year will open on February 1. Make sure to follow our social channels for all the latest highlights from UVA.
