University View Academy hosted a Literacy Day event on Wednesday, February 19, at the UVA Conference Center.
Some UVA students attended in person while other UVA students tuned in from various locations from across the state.
“This year was a very fun and unique event,” UVA 6th grader Abilyn K. said. “I got to hear some book readings, I enjoyed talking with UVA students and teachers, and I really had a lot of fun.”
Teachers and students dressed up as their favorite book characters and enjoyed read-aloud activities, book character bingo, trivia games, and special guest presentations. Today’s readers are tomorrow’s leaders.
“I started reading short books by kindergarten,” Abilyn said. “I’ve always had a natural love of reading. It allows me to travel the world {while} sitting on my bed or couch.
“Reading is a feeling you get when you have a book in front of you and you feel like you are in the book. When the big reveal comes, it’s a really dramatic thing and it’s always exciting. I love reading.”
