University View Academy (UVA) held its annual junior/senior prom on Friday, April 17. Students dressed to their best in suits and long gowns streamed into the Fleur de Lis Event Center and greeted friends. The elegant, New Orleans-themed evening was filled with dancing, plenty of pictures, and delicious food.
Prom has always been a highlight of the high school experience at UVA, but the 2026 prom was special. Organized by the student advisory panel, attendees were able to vote to crown the first UVA prom court.
Seniors in attendance were able to run for prom king or queen, while juniors could run for prince or princess. Nominees introduced themselves to the crowd, and then the ballots opened.
Excitement and cheers greeted the announcement of each position. Senior Marcus Drake, crowned prom king, shared that the experience was something he would never forget.
“To say this prom was fun doesn’t even do it justice to how incredible it was,” Drake said. “It felt like the grand finale to a tv show, it was perfect. The thing I will remember most about it is having one last hurrah with the people I’ve been with since I came to this school for the first time. It was a blast and it’s something I’ll never forget.”
Prom, as well as being a time-honored high school tradition, is one of the many opportunities UVA offers for students to socialize and have fun with their peers.
“The most memorable part of prom was the opportunity it gave for me to meet so many of my friends, especially the ones that live far to where we can’t necessarily plan to hang out otherwise,” shared senior Abigail Efferson, crowned prom queen. “Being named prom queen felt great. I especially loved knowing that I had the support of so many of my friends there.”
