University View Academy (UVA) eighth grader Oni Price competed in the regional science fair at LSU in March. Price placed third in the Chemistry category of the Junior Division with her “bath bomb reaction” project.

Price made her own bath bombs and tested the ratios of the ingredients to see how they affected the time in which the bath bombs dissolved. For her first experiment, she added more cornstarch, which increased the time to dissolve. Her second experiment added more citric acid, which decreased the time to dissolve.

Price tested her altered bath bombs against normal ones and meticulously recorded her results, following the scientific method. Research and accuracy are paramount to Price since she aspires to become a chemist and one day find a cure for cancer.

Price is a dedicated student actively involved in UVA’s Beta Club, having served as a founding member of the elementary chapter. She also placed first in her school level at UVA’s science fair last academic year. UVA is pleased to provide the flexible environment she needs to pursue her dreams.
