Ms. Garrett’s educational career spans over 20 years. Though she has worked across various grade levels, her passion remains strongest for middle school. 

Ms. Garrett started her career as a middle school teacher in Memphis, Tennessee, before returning to her home state of Louisiana. She taught sixth grade for eight years and was then chosen to be assistant principal at a new school in Rapides Parish. The school, Caroline Dormon Junior High School, grew to be one of the top performing schools in Rapides Parish and the state. 

Ms. Garrett then worked as the principal of Mary Goff Elementary School for three years before being selected to serve as Director of Middle, Magnet, and Montessori Schools in Rapides Parish. She was then promoted to Director of Leadership Development at the Louisiana Department of Education, overseeing all leadership activities and recruitment and retention strategies for educators in Louisiana.

Ms. Garrett holds a Bachelor of Science in education from Christian Brothers University and a Master of Education in educational leadership from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. 

Ms. Garrett has a blended family of six children with her husband Jon. They are also very proud grandparents of their one-year-old grandson. Ms. Garrett also loves animals and has a dog, three cats, a hamster, and a full fish tank.
