Homemade Cards add a Personal Touch

Sometimes it’s hard to express gratitude to someone you don’t know but University View Academy students are doing it with Christmas Cards for troops and veterans recovering from injuries. It’s the second year the cards and messages are being sent to the Minneapolis Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center in Minnesota.

Eighth grader Ashton Borel of New Iberia drew his card free-hand with the inscription: “Thank you for all you do. We are forever grateful for your service. Merry Christmas.”

Middle School Art Teacher Marie Turner challenged her students to design the cards and include heartfelt messages knowing that it lifts the spirits of veterans and their families. University View Academy picked the polytrauma center since the veterans, soldiers and their families need support during the holiday season while away from home in recovery.

Seventh grader Terrane Lewis III of Baton Rouge shows his colorful tree card that says cheer.

Perhaps 8th grader Dawson Flynn of Amite summed up this student labor of love best with his card message. “Thank you for your service to our country. I wish you peace, rest, happiness and a recovery. You are loved and appreciated.”  To all, University View Academy says Happy Holidays.
