Assessment and Progress Index Growth Outpaced Statewide Growth
(BATON ROUGE, LA) – University View Academy (UVA) school performance scores (SPS) were released by the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) today. UVA achieved an overall SPS score of 67.9 C. This year’s SPS results remained 12 points above UVA’s pre-pandemic SPS.
UVA demonstrated growth in several SPS categories with its highest gains earned on the ACT index. The ACT index score increased 6.2 percentage points marking the highest increase since 2018. The average ACT student score was 19.1, demonstrating the highest average score since 2019.
UVA demonstrated growth in all assessment and progress indexes which are absolute performance measures that track achievement on core content. The indexes confirm that the work done in the classroom is reflected in yearly LEAP assessments. The K-8 & High School assessment index increased by 2.9 points. The K-8 assessment index increased by 3.3 points. The High School assessment index increased by 1.2 points. The K-8 & High School progress index increased by 3.0 points. The K-8 progress index increased by 2.9 points. The High School progress index increased by 2.0 points. Each of these indicator measurements outpaced statewide assessment and progress scores earned this year.
The increase in the assessment and progress index is an indication that teachers are teaching better and students are learning more. UVA Superintendent Dr. Quentina Timoll shared, “Our teachers tackled the NIET rubric and incorporated student-driven and data-informed methods into their teaching and learning. They identified student success criteria, met in professional learning communities, and utilized blueprints for learning that directly resulted in academic achievement. Our SPS results are a direct reflection of this intentional work to push ourselves and our students to reach their maximum potential. We knew we could rise to new levels of success every day.”
Under Timoll’s leadership, an emphasis has been placed on academic instruction with the implementation of best practices that are proven to increase student achievement. Timoll continued, “We prioritized teaching and learning last year to identify instructional gaps to reinforce student learning. In the virtual setting, quality instruction has proven to be paramount to performance outcome growth and progress. The latest assessment and progress index scores aligned with the district’s strategic priorities illustrate that UVA is growing students academically and closing the achievement gap. This year’s scores indicate that we are now in a place of stability. We are growing students which is our ultimate goal.”
