UVA recognized by Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools for Micro Academy partnership with Children’s Reading Center

BATON ROUGE, LAUniversity View Academy (UVA), a leader in K-12 virtual education across Louisiana, has been named the recipient of the 2025 Community Roots Award by the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools (LAPCS). This prestigious honor recognizes a charter school that has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community engagement, service partnerships, and fostering deep connections within the local and statewide areas they serve.

The award was presented during the annual LAPCS Conference held last week in New Orleans, highlighting UVA’s success in bridging the gap between virtual learning and real-world community impact. UVA was selected for its Micro Academy partnership with the Children’s Reading Center in Jefferson Parish.

“Receiving the Community Roots Award is a profound honor for our administration, staff, and families. At UVA, we believe that education extends far beyond the screen. We found that the educational experience can be elevated through the assistance of learning coaches and Micro Academy facilitators in small group settings who support the instruction provided by our Louisiana-certified teachers. This award validates our efforts to partner with community organizations to provide personalized learning opportunities for our students. UVA is a shining example of how charter schools can innovate to meet the needs of families while strengthening the fabric of our communities,” said Superintendent Dr. Quentina Timoll.

At UVA, the mission has always been to provide a high-quality education that meets students where they are. This award is a testament to the hard work of our administrators, teachers, and staff who ensure that even in a virtual environment, community roots still run deep. Despite operating in a digital environment, UVA has cultivated a strong physical presence across Louisiana through regional field trips, face-to-face service projects, and Micro Academy partnerships with local organizations.

UVA’s Micro Academy serves as an innovative concept created as a direct response to requests from students, parents, and educators to increase student engagement and social interaction and provide additional learning coach support which are all necessary to ensure the academic success of students. The Micro Academy provides students with all the above items in a small setting while maintaining access to high-quality online learning provided by Louisiana-certified teachers.
