University View Academy 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math teachers hosted three prep sessions in the weeks leading up to 2025 LEAP testing for middle schoolers.
It was an opportunity for UVA students to work on and understand problems that they would be tested on in LEAP. Topics covered included exponents, scientific notation, transformations, linear equations, and systems of equations.
Two sessions were held at the Lynx Den in Baton Rouge on March 20 and May 2, while a third session was held in Alexandria on April 2.
“It was amazing to see UVA students work together in collaboration,” UVA 8th grade math teacher Cameron Vance said. “Students were able to ask questions and work out problems in front of their teachers.
“Every student that showed up was excited to be there and was engaged. They were super friendly with their peers while learning math. Math is a very buildable subject, so what you learn in middle school is very helpful and dependent on what you will be learning in high school, so ultimately I hope this sets them up for major success.”
