Kaiyah Magee, 10, was named the 2025-26 University View Academy (UVA) Elementary School Student of the Year. As UVA extended Louisiana’s Student of the Year program to all three of its school levels this academic year, Magee is the first fifth grader at UVA to be awarded this honor.
“My family rejoiced when they found out I was Student of the Year,” Magee shared. “I was thrilled that I would have an opportunity to represent myself and my school very well. I knew that all of my hard work and dedication in school would pay off.”
Magee, a resident of St. Tammany Parish, enrolled at UVA in second grade, where she now thrives academically and socially. Magee is a straight-A student and actively involved in Beta Club, where she served as vice president and now president. At Beta Convention, she placed highly in both spelling and musical performance.
A talented piano player, Magee began studying the instrument at four years old. Now she is part of UVA’s Talented Music program. “Songs tell stories,” Magee said. “I’m able to produce joy for others when I shine my light and gifts musically upon other people in my community.” Magee’s passion for music is not just for competition; she also uses her gift to serve others, such as performing in nursing homes. Service and giving back to her community is very important to Magee. She has donated her time and gifts to various charities.
“I live by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: ‘Life’s persistent and most urgent question is, what are you doing for others?'” Magee said. “Service is not just an activity, it’s a way of life, and a great honor.” Following her passion for improving the world around her, Magee desires to be a wildlife veterinarian and help save endangered animal species one day. Her current academic standing has her well-prepared for the rigor of the profession.
“I deeply appreciate education,” Magee said. “I always give my all in assignments. I felt like I found family connections with my teachers, and because of this, I was assured that UVA is the right place for me. Now, I continue to grow and develop while thriving in a school that cares about my academic success.”
Each fall, 5th, 8th, and 12th grade students are asked to submit applications for the Student of the Year award program which recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, academic rigor, citizenship, and service. Congratulations to Kaiyah Magee as UVA’s first elementary school Student of the Year.
