National Principals Month is celebrated annually in October. At University View Academy (UVA), our three dedicated principals play a pivotal role in shaping our students’ futures and make a difference every day in our learning communities. In many ways, principals set the vision for their school. Their responsibilities include equipping their educators with high-quality instructional materials and effective teaching strategies.
Meet Ms. London, our elementary school principal:
- Ms. London has been in education for 21 years.
- Her favorite part of the job is empowering teachers, building relationships, and creating opportunities for students to grow and succeed. Leading virtual elementary school is unique because she is building the foundation for lifelong learning while finding creative ways to make connections beyond the screen, prioritizing intentionality, innovation and strong partnerships with families.
- Fun fact: She is a proud alum of Southern University and A&M College, as well as a mother of four children.

Meet Ms. Garrett, our middle school principal:
- Ms. Garrett has been in education for 23 years.
- Her favorite part of the job is watching middle school students figure out who they are, develop independence, and discover their potential and their place in the world. She also loves supporting teachers and helping them be the very best they can be for students.
- Fun fact: She has a blended family with six kids ranging in age from 11 to 26, as well as two grandchildren. She also loves animals and has several pets.

Meet Ms. Watson, our high school principal:
- Ms. Watson has been in education for 19 years.
- Her favorite part of the job is watching students transition into life after high school. She enjoys helping students discover their interests, explore different pathways, and turn their goals into reality. She loves seeing students grow from young people who are still discovering who they are into young adults prepared to take on the world.
- Fun fact: She loves reading. One of her favorite things to do with her family is visit a bookstore or library, pick out books, and spend time sitting together reading as a simple activity that brings everybody together.

Even though Principals Month is coming to an end, we acknowledge the hard work and vital contributions of principals all year long. Remember to thank your principal today!
