a UVA teacher greets a student at open house

On Friday, September 5, over 1,600 students and families traveled to the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales for University View Academy’s (UVA) final open house of the school year. As a virtual school, UVA’s two open houses are unique in-person opportunities for students. Returning families can catch up with old friends and explore their new classes and programs. New families can ask questions of the UVA leadership team and meet teachers and peers.

“My son was wearing a Lord of the Rings shirt at open house,” shared one parent. “His teacher immediately picked up his interest in science fiction and connected it to Languages and Language arts. ELA is not his favorite subject so I was glad she did this. She was so personable and so kind. She really put him at ease and used his interests to connect with him. What a gift for a teacher to inspire a child to want to read so desperately in one conversation.”

UVA teachers prioritize connecting with each individual student. Grouped by grade level, they often decorate their tables with fun themes and props and set up games for families. Open house also offers a gathering space to host events such as the Scholastic Book Fair.

UVA holds several in-person events around the state throughout the year. Don’t miss your chance to join what’s happening soon near you! Check out our events calendar here
